POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary objective of this position is to support “Food Systems” afterschool programs at three Minneapolis Public School partner sites during the school-year (October-May) under the leadership of the Food Systems Coordinator. This role will support high-quality youth development lessons focused on culinary arts, urban agriculture, science and food justice concepts. Must be available 2:30-5:30 on Mondays + Wednesdays, 3:00-6:00pm on Tuesdays + Thursdays. The Food Systems Youth Program Specialist will inspire and empower youth ages 9-14 to grow, cultivate and cook healthy food for their families and communities across North and South Minneapolis.


Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Strategy and Thought Leadership

  • Collaborate on weekly lesson plans and utilize student feedback to improve activities
  • Stay current with and connected to available community resources


Operations and Outcomes

  • Delivers, high quality programming to participants alongside Food Systems Coordinator
  • Track and report attendance as required
  • Maintain openness to new approaches and feedback from Supervisor
  • Help the set up and cleanup of any projects during the day.


People and Community Development

  • Provide excellent client service
  • Nurture internal & external relationships


Financial Management

  • Use resources and supplies responsibly
  • Record time and expenses accurately, as assigned

  • Understanding of appropriate personal boundaries with youth and professional ethics
  • Self-motivating with excellent time management and accountability skills
  • Dedication to social, racial, economic and restorative justice with a deep interest in building authentic relationships and engaging Black, Indigenous, Immigrant and Youth of Color.
