Position Summary:
The Writer/Public Relations Specialist (WPRS) maintains, expands, and implements complex communications programs for OneLegacy and OneLegacy Foundation. The WPRS is responsible for researching and writing, editing and proofreading materials (creative, earned, owned and stakeholder pitches), and communications develop content creation, including press releases, fact sheets, website content and other press/media materials, and ensure and drive quality control. The WPRS will collaborate and work closely with our Media Relations Specialist on various stories and media strategies. The WPRS must be fluently bilingual in English/Spanish.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
External Public Relations Activity:
1.Strategizes, pitches and places stories in general market and Latino print and broadcast media.
2.Serves as a liaison with PR and Communications agencies and works with OneLegacy’s external agency to develop ongoing marketing campaigns, strategic communication plans, support events, public relations, and community relations.
3.Reads style guides or project briefs and utilizes them to develop content for radio, television, and print media. Places stories in non-clinical trade publications.
4.Drives and manages robust media and outreach campaigns and owns relationships with key reporters and stakeholder groups.
5.Serves as spokesperson for general market media as warranted.
6.Supports the management of social channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) engagement strategies and online community management.
7.Identifies and trains key OneLegacy employees to participate in media interviews.
8.Works with volunteer and community events department staff to identify Ambassadors for emergent media opportunities.
9.Attends staff meetings, training programs, or in-services as required.
10.Supports the organization’s Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in the OneLegacy Policies and Procedures, and the mission, vision and values in the organization.
11.Identifies and implements marketing and advertising opportunities.
12.Monitors, tracks and evaluates media efforts against organizational goals; produce regular reports assessing past media performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
13.Monitors OneLegacy’s brand reputation via external media coverage.
14.Responds to media inquiries and coordinates/delivers requested information or interviews, ensuring that reporters and other members of the media have a professional and positive interaction with OneLegacy.
15.Performs other duties as assigned.
Communications Materials:
1.Writes press releases and media advisories.
2.Writes or translates Spanish-language communications tools on behalf of OneLegacy and Donate Life California Registry.
3.Writes stories for OneLegacy’s newsletter.
Skills and Abilities:
1.Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
2.Ability to initiate, prioritize and organize the work of self and others.
3.Advanced proficiency skills in all major social media platforms and related monitoring tools.
4.Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and general public.
5.Demonstrated ability to manage contact databases.
6.Proficient PC skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
7.Ability to independently represent OneLegacy in a professional manner in presentations, meetings and media interviews.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in business, marketing, or communications/PR.
Experience:
5+ years of professional experience in media or public relations required. Must have 3+ years’ experience working with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Full knowledge of local media outlets.
Proficient skills using the MS 2010 Suite software.
Certification & License:
OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver’s license and current vehicle insurance based on California minimum insurance coverage standards.
Equipment:
Reliable automotive transportation required.
