Workforce Development Instructor/Facilitator
The Ethiopian Community Center Inc. (ECC) is seeking to hire a qualified Workforce
Development Instructor/Facilitator to be part of our team. The position is a part-time (up to 8 hours a week) contract position renewable for up to two years.
Organizational Background
The Ethiopian Community Center’s (ECC) mission is to respond to the needs of African immigrants in the Washington Metropolitan Area and support their efforts to improve their quality of life. Established in 1980, ECC has a 42-year track record of providing culturally and linguistically targeted services that have successfully connected thousands of African immigrants to critical social services, trained over 2,000 individuals through workforce development and adult English Literacy programs, and provided quality out-of-school academic and enrichment programs for hundreds of youth.
Responsibilities
- Conduct highly engaging Job Readiness Workshops in various topic areas including but not limited to: positive communication and conflict management techniques, goal setting towards career advancement, digital literacy, job application process, resumes and cover letters, interviewing skills, and job retention techniques using various instructional methods
- Promote best practices in career readiness training and content.
- Work with participants to develop/update job search documents such as cover letters, resumes, and references.
- Support the development of a personal career map with each program participant that includes career readiness training goals, credential training and/or work experience needed to attain career goals.
- Assist with the coaching of participants along their career pathway, as needed.
- Create and maintain a positive, highly interactive, respectful, and participatory learning environment.
- Collaborate with the training team to plan, recommend, and develop new or improved activities and ensure high-quality service to all participants in the program.
- Work closely with other team members, communicating regularly with assigned presenters and career coaches regarding participants, achievements, and areas of improvement.
- Maintain performance and attendance records for each participant.
- Complete reports and outcomes forms.
- Evaluate program participants' achievement of goals.
- Communicating with participants and developing individual training plans
- Provide consistent support and follow-up to program participants
- Analyze clients’ learning difficulties and develop course plans accordingly
- Prepare participants for the entire job search and interview process
- Assist in writing appropriate job search correspondences, including job application forms, resumes, and cover letters.
- Conduct mock interviews and coach on appropriate business etiquette.
- Create awareness of other services offered by the Center for program participants
- Perform all duties as assigned and/or required to achieve outcomes of contract and partner organizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Social Work, or related technical field or equivalent experience.
- Proven work experience as a Workforce Development Instructor or a similar role in the education sector
- Experience working with individuals with barriers to language and employment.
- Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity
- Strong facilitation and/or group counseling skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Commitment to Towards Employment mission and values.
- Computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Internet.
- Language proficiency in Amharic, French, Arabic, and/or Tigrigna preferred.
- Ability to use multimedia effectively; must have experience applying participatory methods and ability to address multiple learning styles
- Attention to detail, strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, be flexible and dependable, and demonstrate initiative.
