Winter Camp Counselor

Are you looking to work a few hours per week while school is out of session this winter? Wharton School in Ellicott City, MD is seeking enthusiastic camp counselors for our winter camp program, which will be taking place from December 26, 2022 to January 20, 2023.

Who We are

Wharton School is an accredited grade school educational institution that hosts in-person summer and winter camps for students every school year. Our small and capable team is dedicated to helping Korean international students acclimate to U.S. culture and school life.

Our Students

Our students are aged 5th through 10th grade, and they are all coming from South Korea to stay here for the duration of the camp. Korean is their first language; however, they all have some capability of understanding English, and an ability to speak Korean is not required for this position.

What You will be Doing

From December 27 through 30, you will be instructing English as a Second Language (ESL) on a basic level to students grade 5 through 10. Additionally, from December 27 through January 18, you will be leading your own club activity 2-3 times per week (exact dates listed under the Calendar section below). Class and club sizes will range from five to six students each.

Qualifications

Applicants must be experienced with kids and demonstrate proficiency in instructing both English and at least one of the club activities listed under the Clubs section of this job description below. Ability to speak Korean is not required for this position.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Prepare and instruct ESL lessons for the first week of winter camp.
• Prepare and supervise activities for the club under your jurisdiction.
• Communicate with the lead teacher regarding updates, comments, and concerns.

Calendar and Hourly Wage- You will need to be present for all of the dates and times listed below.

ESL Classes (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) $30/hr

• Week 1: Tue - Fri, Dec. 27 - 30
• (Total of four days of classes)

Club Activities (1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.) $20/hr

• Week 1: Tue - Wed, Dec. 27 - 28
• Week 2: Tue & Thu, Jan. 3 & 5
• Week 3: Tue & Thu, Jan. 10 & 12
• Week 4: Mon - Wed, Jan. 16 - 18
• (Total of nine days of club activities)

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• No weekends

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Ellicott City, MD 21042: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

• Teaching or childcare: 1 year (Required)
