Purpose Statement
The job of the Technology Director for the Winlock School District is to provide all aspects of information technology systems and support, maintenance, repair and upgrading of the district technology hardware and software applications; ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within industry guidelines and project deadlines; providing support and resolving district operational issues relating to services and applications; providing user training and maintaining detailed activity and work order records.
Essential Functions
- Communicate technology and support issues to the Superintendent, Executive and administrative team on an on-going basis.
- Administers support for the purpose of maintenance, repair, and upgrading the computer hardware, peripherals, network equipment troubleshooting, network cabling, telephone systems, video conference systems, A/V equipment and software. Duties include technology support for a safe and functional operating condition.
- Confers with staff and leadership on topics related to core technology services for the purpose of providing technical advice and to assist with policy development.
- Works with the Executive Director of Business and Operations to develop and maintain an efficient technology budget for the district.
- Maintains inventory of network hardware and software for the purpose of complying with district policies and state/federal rules and laws.
- Manages ordering of equipment and supplies
- Negotiates, in conjunction with the Superintendent, service agreements with the ESD, OSPI and other vendors.
- Attends meetings and/or technical conferences as assigned and gathers information required to perform functions.
- Inspects repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed effectively.
- Installs software products on a variety of hardware platforms for the purpose of upgrading and improving district technology resources.
- Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Procures technology parts, supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items commonly required to repair core supported resources.
- Serves as liaison to software/hardware providers and outside repair services for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information and coordinating agency activities.
- Trains staff on new technology hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing software.
- Transports a variety of items for the purpose of providing materials at job sites or transporting equipment for repair.
- Organizes and manages the district technology committee as they set goals and initiatives addressing instructional technology within the district.
- Manages Technology requests through FMX, the district technology trouble ticket system.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing pertinent network, application and operating system software; adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE of current generation operating systems, environment and network protocols, router configurations, and inter/intranet applications is required. Technology is ever changing and the employee will be required to adapt efficiently to change. Must be proficient in Chrome OS, Mac and PC operating systems.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes. It is required that this individual be able to work with a significantly diverse population of students, staff and parents. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create an action plan that moves to resolution of the problem.
Responsibilities
This employee reports to the Superintendent and must be able to work independently to achieve objectives while monitoring and maintaining the budget.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling (possibly 50 lbs or more), some stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling in a safe and appropriate fashion. The job also requires fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing.
