Fitter:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Must be able to read and interpret contract documents (structural/mechanical drawings) for fit up of assemblies, beams, members and miscellaneous structural steel shapes and configurations
- Verify conformance of work pieces to the specifications of the contract documents, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
- Move steel members into positions, manually or with hoists/cranes into position to align, fit, and tack weld parts to form complete units or subunits
- Follow contract documents (blueprints and layout specifications), and using jigs, fixtures, levels, squares, and basic hand tools
- Study contract documents (engineering drawings and blueprints) to determine material requirements, weld procedure requirements, and task sequences
- Check all parts and materials when received from processing that they are made according to the contract documents
- Must Follow Fitter work instructions (Our Standard Work Practices)
Safety:
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA guidelines
- Maintain a safe work area
- Use stop work authority if you see something that may be potentially unsafe
- Encourage others to work safely
Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities, and Competencies:
- Knowledge of weld and tack placement during fit up
- Applicable experience with structural and miscellaneous steel fit up and construction
- Knowledge and ability to use fitters tools (Levels, Squares, Center Finder, 2 Hole Pins, Etc.) to layout and fit up
- knowledge of fabrication math and its application
- Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in construction or repair of structures
- Must be able to work in a team environment with other fitters and welders to accomplish team goals, and meet contract delivery dates, must be able to share knowledge with others to resolve fabrication questions
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Read contract documents or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements
- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Operate, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts
- Must know basic rigging, crane & hoist operation, proper lifting techniques
- Measure all dimensions of completed products or work pieces to verify conformance to the contract documents
- Ability to operate small forklift, pallet jacks, hoist, etc. to lift and transport materials exceeding 50 pounds
- Welding proficiency in the following processes; GMAW / FCAW
- Safely and properly operate an Oxy/Acct and plasma cutting equipment
Required Training and Certifications:
- Able to pass a minimum T-Plate Fillet Welding Certification Test using FCAW & GMAW processes with knowledge of weld & prep symbols
- Shop drawing reading and basic fabrication math test
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Welding: 2 years
- Fitting: 5 years
- Job shop experience preferred
