We are seeking a VP, Associate General Counsel, Regulatory and Compliance to join our Legal team in
Purchase, NY.
The VP, Associate General Counsel, Regulatory and Compliance is responsible for providing advice and
counsel on a wide range of insurance and reinsurance regulatory and compliance matters for the Group’s
US domiciled insurance companies. This position reports to the Executive Vice President & Chief Counsel,
Corporate.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide accurate legal guidance on all (re)insurance regulatory and compliance matters that
affect the company.
Review and revise intercompany reinsurance agreements, ceded reinsurance agreements, MGA
agreements and other (re)insurance-related agreements.
Conduct legal and regulatory research to help ensure compliance with applicable insurance law
and regulations.
Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments across applicable jurisdictions
Maintaining knowledge of organization's operations and legal documents.
Provide legal advice to Underwriting, Finance, Operations and Claims colleagues on regulatory
and compliance matters.
Build relationships and work closely with internal and external parties (regulators, external
counsel, vendors) across the Sompo group of companies.
Identify proactive solutions that will address the needs of our internal business partners and
clients.
Assist in all compliance and legal matters for Sompo's various businesses and subsidiaries,
including those located outside the United States.
Help ensure the organization maintains ongoing regulatory compliance with applicable federal
and state laws, rules and regulations.
Interact with the various US insurance regulators and advocate for the Group’s regulated
insurance entities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
JD degree with excellent academic credentials and admitted in NY.
6+ years of experience in-house legal department at a US domiciled insurance company, ideally
a P&C insurer, or within a law firm’s insurance practice.
A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with
strong analytical, problem-solving, written and oral communication skills.
Professional demeanor with high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
Excellent project management skills, well organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast paced
work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
Ability to evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of action.
Team oriented and able to work collaboratively and effectively with business clients and other
legal department members, as well as being a self-starter comfortable working independently.
