MaineHealth seeks a new Vice President of Medical Affairs, Intensive/Inpatient Services to join our team. We are looking for an innovative and passionate administrative leader and clinician; one who can continue to transform some of our service line offerings to meet the evolving behavioral health needs of our communities, keeping quality and patients at the center of the work. This is a primarily system-level administrative role with the opportunity for clinical and academic responsibilities.
The Vice President of Medical Affairs, Intensive/Inpatient Services for MaineHealth Behavioral Health is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer in the development and coordination of the medical/clinical philosophy of the Behavioral Health Service Line. The Vice President of Medical Affairs also helps identify and initiate, with other members of intensive services, improvements in clinical care across the system and will mentor a seasoned Physician leader group. This is a unique opportunity to impact the way inpatient and intensive behavioral health services are delivered across the largest integrated health system in Northern New England.
The Vice President of Medical Affairs will assist in identifying methods and ways of effectively coordinating and leveraging the array of psychiatric and behavioral health resources of MaineHealth local health system hospitals including Spring Harbor; the system’s flagship behavioral health hospital; Southern Maine Health Care; Pen Bay Medical Center; Maine Medical Center; and others.
This role also has oversight of those medical services related to crisis and residential services, with medical directors of these respective services directly reporting to the Vice President of Medical Affairs of Intensive Services. Overseeing issues of flow and access through behavioral health bed management and care models across the system are primary responsibilities of this role. System-wide Provider Recruitment and telehealth development in behavioral health, as well as advising on legislative affairs, will also be responsibilities that this Vice President will carry. This role works regularly with leaders spanning the MaineHealth system, and is part of a close-knit colleague group that includes the VP of Medical Affairs - Behavioral Health Ambulatory Services and VP of Medical Affairs - Developmental Disorders Services.
The new VP should be a gifted leader of people and operations, with demonstrated success in coaching, advising, and navigating complex situations with competence and authenticity. This person should also bring strong communications skills and a diplomatic, collaborative approach to the work. This person should also have an interest in working with medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees from a variety of specialties.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Education: Graduate from an accredited school of medicine and board eligible in the field of psychiatry.
2. License/Certifications: Psychiatrist licensed by the State of Maine.
3. Experience: 10+ years of experience practicing psychiatry along with administrative/management experience is preferred.
4. High degree of technical skills, evidence of leadership qualities, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
5. Maintains membership of Spring Harbor Hospital/Maine Medical Center medical staff and other appropriate clinical privileges.
