About the Role

As the Head of Government Relations, you will be responsible for the successful management of Fortitude Re’s government relations, as well as identifying and engaging on legislative, regulatory and industry risks and opportunities that optimally position the Company with regulators and policymakers. The role will report directly to the Group General Counsel and be based in Jersey City or Nashville. You will have the opportunity to:

• Help represent Fortitude Re in front of insurance regulators and their staffs in the U.S. and internationally, advocating on behalf of the Company on relevant laws, regulations and policies
• Monitor regulatory hearing, political press, regulatory advisory meetings and various policy meetings relevant to the Company’s interests
• Participate in industry trade association groups to monitor industry developments and advance Fortitude Re’s positions on key regulatory issues
• Partner with team members to develop presentations, memos and discussion points for meetings on relevant regulatory topics
• Build and develop relationships with key stakeholders in the insurance regulatory arena
• Provide updates to Board, investors and senior management on key regulatory developments and their impact to the Company

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in insurance and reinsurance government affairs
• Demonstrated experience in providing leadership on government affairs and well versed in industry issues affecting life & annuity, property & casualty and legacy/run-off (re)insurers
• Skilled at interacting with all levels of senior management, directors, regulators and policymakers
• Strong project management expertise in cross-functional initiatives
• Insurance industry experience and understanding of industry dynamics involving underwriting, claims, and asset management
• Creative and original thinking, a willingness to propose new ideas without fear of rejection
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to position our narrative and key messages before regulators and policymakers
• A collaborative team player, consultative, confident decision-maker, self-motivated, and able to drive processes
• Interpersonal communication skills vital to work continuously, effectively, and thoughtfully with senior executives across the business
