Job Purpose: The purpose of the Veterinary Technician SWOT nurse is to provide high quality medical support and nursing care to companion animal patients for abbreviated (4-5 hour) intervals throughout the day. The Veterinary Technician SWOT nurse will assist with ensuring all teammates receive a thirty-minute lunch break. All teams are under the direction of the doctor on staff. The doctor is the lead, and will be prioritizing patients, directing the team and is the ultimate decision maker for all medical treatments. The Shift Leads are the leads for managing the floor and its flow.

Duties & Responsibilities of Veterinary Technician SWOT Nurse:
Technical skills:
- Assumes responsibility for the short-term coordination and management of care for specific patients during emergencies, treatments, and procedures.
- Demonstrate extensive emergency and critical care knowledge base and the ability to apply this in a variety of settings.
- Incorporates environmental and safety practices into all facets of patient and client care
- Assisting nurses in emergent care and/or busy patient assignments
Client Communications (if/when covering outpatient technician):
- Review estimates and collect payments for outpatient cases
- Review and adjust charges to check for accuracy
- Call in any needed prescriptions
- Concisely document pertinent client communications and advise the attending veterinarian of these communications (close the loop consistently and timely)
- Review discharge instructions with owners and dismissal of the patient
- Ensure history forms have been completed by owners and are in the record/record started
- Enter in communication logs
Administrative:
- Be proficient in using our veterinary practice-management software (EzyVet, SmartFlow, Timeless)
- Assist Client Administrators as necessary
- Attending staff and individual meetings as scheduled
Knowledge/Skills:
- Experience equivalent to job duties and responsibilities
- Excellent veterinary nursing and technical skills
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
- Reliable and a self-starter
- Strong computer skills
- Strong ability to multi-task, delegate and oversee daily work flow
- Strong working knowledge of emergency veterinary medicine
- Strong work ethic and professionalism
