Veterinary Technician

Sibley Animal Hospital, a successful general practice in Calumet City, is in search of a Veterinary Technician to join our team.

What You’ll Get to Do (Responsibilities)

This is a great opportunity for a Vet Tech that wants to experience a variety of general veterinary care cases while enjoying the life long relationships built with loyal clients.

During a typical week as a Technician at Sibley Animal Hospital, depending upon your experience and credentials, the main things you will get to do are:

• Assist in the exam room and / or curbside by obtaining pet histories, relaying accurate information to the doctors, and assisting the doctors with administering vaccines, drawing blood, and dispensing medications.

• Triage cases, record TPRs, perform lab tests, assist with dentistry, surgery, and with minor procedures.

• Complete and maintain accurate medical notes to ensure a full record of the care provided.

• Contribute to the overall success of the practice through client communication and case discussion, promoting the products and services as recommended by the doctors.

What you Should Bring to the Team (Qualifications)

Both experienced Veterinary Assistants and LVTs / CVTs are welcome to apply! To assist us in taking excellent care of our patients, you should have the following education, experience, and qualities:

• If you are a licensed Veterinary Technician, then you need to either possess or qualify for licensure in IL.

• If you are unlicensed, you need to have a high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years in a small animal clinical setting.

• Excellent communication and math skills. Bilingual in Spanish & English a plus but not required.

• An above average level of computer / technology skills. Knowledge of Cornerstone PMS is a plus.

• The ability to anticipate needs, an eagerness to learn and grow, and commitment to quality in all you do, are absolute musts!

For Licensed / Certified Candidates or new grads:

• A.S. Degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited Veterinary Technology Program.

• Veterinary Technician License or Certification valid in the state of Illinois, or pending test date.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting pay range for this position will be between $16 and $21 per hour, depending upon your level of experience. In addition to competitive pay, other benefits include:

Hours & Availability

Candidates available for full-time hours are invited to apply! You should be available to help provide top-notch, loving care for our pet patients during our hours of operation, which are:

• Monday and Tuesday from 8am to 6pm

• Wednesdays from 8am to 2pm

• Thursdays and Fridays from 8am to 6pm

• Saturdays from 8am to 1pm

The practice closes each day from 12pm to 2pm daily, with the exception of Wednesdays.
