Summary of Duties

Are You a Good Fit?
The ideal candidate must be able to perform and coordinate all veterinary services for animals in the care of the City of Sugar Land’s Animal Shelter. This candidate must provide medical care as well as humane care and treatment to all animals. The ideal candidate must maintain up to date knowledge in handling animals, breed identification and animal behavior. An understanding of Animal Shelter operations is a must for this candidate. We are looking for a candidate that can work independently and in a team with minimal supervision. The perfect candidate will have experience with animal care and dispensing medications in compliance with shelter policies. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness, and dependability.
We are looking for someone who can provide exceptional customer service for a variety of coworkers, supervisors and the general public with professionalism and patience. Minimum Qualifications

What We Need from You as a Veterinary Technician
As our Veterinary Technician, you will represent the City of Sugar Land Animal Services Division inside the shelter. You will be expected to coordinate animal care with a licensed veterinarian contracted by the City of Sugar Land. You will be responsible for performing daily rounds and visual checks on all animals daily to ensure their well-being. You will perform all fecal tests, blood draws and diagnostic testing. This position will enhance team building skills and your knowledge of animal care operations. It is your priority to deliver excellent customer service to our citizens while maintaining the City of Sugar Land’s efforts to enhance our Animal Shelter.
The ideal candidate is hard-working, patient and detail oriented. You listen to your superiors and co-workers. You are empathetic to animals in need but able to multi-task, so your work gets completed in an organized fashion. You follow through and are accountable for all actions. Being at work on time is a priority along with following all safety protocols. When an emergency situation arises, you are not easily flustered, but are willing to work hard to help in any way designated by your leadership team. At the end of the day, you get great satisfaction out of caring for an animal’s health and administering care when needed. • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
• Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience working as a Veterinary Technician required.
• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License
• Certified Veterinary Technician required, or ability to obtain within the first six months of employment.
