Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist
Job description
Our veterinary assistant position is an integral member of the veterinary hospital team and is a primary support member to the doctors and RVT staff. The veterinary assistant must have attention to detail, be able to communicate effectively to clients and other staff and maintain a professional attitude. An ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, be a team player, and be able to work well in fast paced environment.
Exam Room Assistant Job Duties:
· Assist doctors in exam rooms, including tasks such as taking a complete patient history, restraint of patients, invoicing, and client education
· Client service, including tasks such as going over medications, client education materials, treatment plans, etc.
- Admit patients/Discharge patients according to hospital protocol
- Notify doctors/techs of patient arrivals
Phone/Front Desk job duties
- Always deliver exceptional client service. Greet clients and patients in a friendly, professional manner
- Perform opening & closing procedures according to required timeline
- Correctly prepare patient records and consent forms, including getting vaccination history, weight and any other information that may be necessary including previous records and blood work prior to patient’s appointment
- Maintain medical records according to hospital protocol, as well as updating client/patient files, including name, address, email/phone and patient history when needed.
- Professionally and efficiently handle telephone calls in order to: schedule appointments according to hospital guidelines; deliver information about the hospital, Doctors, and services to clients; communicate questions and information between hospital team members and clients through verbal & written hospital protocols.
- Provide client education by reviewing medications and prescription diets, or educational material prescribed to patients with clients
- Reviewing charges and invoices to clients after any service, as well as receiving payment and preparing/reviewing estimates as needed.
- Correctly reconcile invoices at the end of the day and balance cash drawer. Settling credit cards/scanning checks.
Miscellaneous Duties:
· Maintaining proper environment by cleaning kennels, and various areas of the hospital to maintain a clean and healthy environment for patients and clients
· Perform all other appropriate duties as required by Hospital Manager or DVM
Required:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and remain standing for long periods of time as needed.

- Veterinary experience: 1 year (Preferred)
