Job description

Working supervisor responsible for maintaining and repairing public utilities infrastructure. Works is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor.

Main Responsibilities:

Supervises and participates in the tasks and work of utilities crews engaged in the repair, rework, and maintenance of public utility infrastructure.

Locates water, sewer and reclaimed water mains, branch, service, and lateral lines.

Repairs, replaces and installs new water, sewer and reclaimed water mains, branch, service, and lateral lines.

Maintains, tests, repairs, replaces, and installs new potable and reclaimed meters.

Maintains, tests, repairs, replaces and installs new backflow devices

Prepares reports and performs other administrative tasks.

Regular in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues, residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located only in the workplace is required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Minimum Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of department methods, operating rules and equipment of construction and maintenance of public utility infrastructure.

Knowledge of occupational hazards as well as safety precautions of the work place.

Ability to lay out, direct and lead the work crew.

Ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Ability to supervise.

Ability to prepare written reports and keep records.

Ability to do manual work under various weather conditions.

Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

Skill in operation of construction equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERINECE:

Must have High school graduate or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

Five (5) years-experience in performing maintenance in a sewer and water distribution system.

*A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.*

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:

Must possess a Valid Class “B” Commercial Florida Driver’s License

Must have the ability to obtain Level 2 Water Distribution and Class C Wastewater certificates within six (6) months of hire.

Must have the ability to obtain FEMA 100 & 200 certificates within six (6) months of hire.

Working Hours and Environment:

Full-time position. May require work outside of normal business hours in emergency and maintenance circumstances.

Works outside up to 100% of the time in various weather and environmental conditions. Potential exposure to: heat, wind, rain, dust, dirt, noise, sewage, pond and creek water, below ground level, confined spaces, uneven surfaces, insects, native animals, with and around odors, in or with moving vehicles and equipment, and possibly chemicals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.03 - $23.00 per hour

Experience:

  • sewer and water distribution: 5 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Preferred)
  • Level 2 Water Distribution within six months of hire (Preferred)
  • Class C Wastewater Certificate within six months of hire (Preferred)
  • FEMA 100 certificate within six months of hire (Preferred)
  • FEMA 200 Certificate within six months of hire (Preferred)
