Description: The Controller is responsible for the accounting functions of US Operations including preparation of financial reports, maintenance of the integrity of the accounting system, compliance with tax and regulatory agencies, budgeting and job cost analysis. This position will be based out of the Casa Grande, AZ (just outside of Phoenix) office and will report to the Chief Financial Officer of The Crossing Group. This position will work closely with other senior finance team members in the Nisku, AB Head Office along with the US Management team based out of Arizona.

Responsibilities of this position include:
Managing the accounting department
- Maintaining a documented system of internal controls and ensuring they function properly.
- Overseeing the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
- Supporting and fostering the development and improvement of accounting staff with tools, training, and accountability.
Full Cycle Financial Accounting Transactions and Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements for each corporate entity on a timely and accurate basis being conscious of all risks including reporting deadlines, performance of business units, including Job GM%, G&A variances, and collection risks.
- Prepare and provide supporting analysis, schedules, reports and other information (MD&A) to assist management in maximizing profitability.
- Monitor actual versus budget results for all companies and take appropriate actions to rectify and address any issues where budget is not being achieved.
- Ensure processes in place to properly track and pay all employees on a timely and accurate basis.
- Accounts Payable - Ensure processes in place to record and pay all accounts payable on a timely and accurate basis.
- Project management documentation - Ensure processes in place to prepare, deliver, and validate project invoice files.
Financial Analysis and Forecasting
- Calculate variances from budget for all entities and report significant issues to Senior Management
- Provide for a system of management cost reporting, prepare and discuss with relevant user groups
- Assist in provision of financial analysis as required, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations
- Assist in preparation of annual operating and CAPEX budgets for business unit
- Assist in development of relevant corporate benchmarks / KPI's and deployment of such benchmarks.
Oversee Cash Management and Working Capital by building a system to evaluate, monitor, and validate the credit worthiness of clients, manage receivables and collections in a responsible and appropriate manner, and monitor and manage compliance to all banking and non-financial covenants.
Coordination with External Stakeholders including auditors, regulatory and taxation authorities across the US
Act as a leader for the US offices and operations to set an example as well as to provide a positive work culture that aligns to the overall corporate culture.
Requirements: Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Maintenance of CPA (Certified Professional Accountant) designation
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in accounting/finance
- Experience in working with multiple legal entities
- Experience with financial reporting requirements
Asset
- Certificate or Diploma in Business Administration
- Experience working with QuickBooks, Great Plains and SharePoint
- A background in construction or oilfield industry

- Ability to be organized, prioritize tasks, and manage changing priorities and processes
- Strong analytical, accuracy, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent customer with a high level of professionalism
