Zoning and policy development are exciting to you, and you understand how a plan must be both effective and approachable, both textually and visually (the best-laid plans look the part). You wake up before your alarm clock, having realized better phrasing for that policy text you've been working on, and type it into your notes before you forget it. You are not afraid to try bold new plan designs and policy strategies and love collaborating with colleagues in urban design and climate action planning.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ascent is seeking an Urban Planner to join either our Sacramento or San Diego office as part of the Urban Design and Planning team. In a typical week in this position, you might :
- Collaborate with other planners and design professionals on projects throughout the state
- Consult with a local agency regarding housing requirements, a housing element update, or a zoning update
- Prepare planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs, and regulations
- Research policies, plans, and regulations, including zoning ordinances and codes
- Lead data gathering, research assignments, and analysis, as well as mapping and spatial analysis
- Conduct planning, demographic, and statistical analysis
- Facilitate and organize workshops and meetings, including preparing presentations and presentation materials
- Assist project managers and/or directors in project management activities
- Attend a local conference and present on a topic of interest
- Partner with environmental planners to define a design or policy solution to protect sensitive resources
- Advance your urban planning career through training and mentorship
Requirements
The candidate must have at least 5 years of professional planning experience and hold a Bachelor’s or master's degree with major coursework in urban and regional planning, community development, geography, and landscape architecture.
