University Advancement Research Analyst
Job description
This is a full-time 12- month position reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. This position may require a training period to fully learn the required skills for the Research Analyst position as outlined in the job description. The training period is expected to last one year. At the end of the training period, the employee will be evaluated by the Vice President of University Advancement. If the employee has learned and demonstrated the required skills, they will continue their employment on an at-will basis and salary will be adjusted accordingly.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and determines research project strategy and development officers regarding the best strategy and possible resources.
- Provides research-based counsel and analysis to development officers regarding cultivation and solicitation strategy. Meets with assigned development officers regularly to review prospects and projects and/or to provide detailed briefings on prospects.
- Coordinates, organize, and participates in prospect meetings with development officers and staff members. Collaborates with development officers on proactive prospect identification and qualification and makes recommendations concerning prospect opportunities. Analyzes and assesses data requirements and resources.
- Researches gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and interprets biographical and financial information on individuals, corporations, and foundations, based on the development staff's fundraising strategies and objectives. Analyzes a variety of information to identify trends and patterns. Compares and evaluates verified and extrapolated data and determines appropriate utilization of knowledge. Assesses prospect's giving capability, philanthropic tendencies and practices, and reasonable potential solicitors. Creates research briefing reports to present information to schools, development officers, and senior administrators on federal, state, corporations, foundations, and individual donors.
- Identifies and profiles potential corporate, foundation, and individual donors. Assists with qualifying potential corporate, foundation, and/or individual donors. Identifies new fundraising prospects by keeping abreast of current news and industry trends. Reviews various publications to obtain timely information about alumni, higher education, philanthropy, and business trends.
- Contributes ideas and recommendations to improve existing research operations.
- Assigns prospect ratings based on giving capacity as determined by extensive financial research based on various sources such as online databases, published references, and other documents. Assists development officers in rating the giving potential of identified prospects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change responsibilities at any time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; demonstrates a record of effectiveness in written and oral skills, computer and organizational skills, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Two or more years of experience in computer searches, prospect research, fundraising, or advancement operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of tools and techniques for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data.
- Commitment to ethical research practices and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material discretely.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, think strategically, anticipate needs, and show initiative in managing and promoting new projects.
- Organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously to accommodate shifting priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in prospect research, development, management, and proactive prospecting methodologies.
- Professional experience working in a higher education institution or nonprofit organization setting.
- Experience working with wealth screening data and reporting tools.
- Direct experience with Ellucian's Advancement solutions and Blackbaud's ResearchPoint
