Unit Clerk- Behavioral Health- Medstar Washington Hospital Center- Inpatient Psychiatry
Job description
The Unit Clerk works directly with the Behavioral Health team, which includes intake, the UR coordinator, Unit Social Workers and the Discharge Planners. Performing a variety of administrative duties as outlined below. This person ensures the timely, efficient, and organized flow of operations for the Behavioral Health team. Incumbents in this position may perform all, or a combination of, the duties described depending upon their assigned work area and the specific needs of the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supports the UR Coordinator with initial authorizations
- Responds to emails, fax clinical information to collateral contacts, answer phones in intake office
- Set up technology for virtual visits and court hearings on both inpatient units
- Send out transitional records within 24 hours of discharge to support discharge planners
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Assist in maintaining Behavioral Health supplies and monitors inventory levels and will send list of requested items needed to Behavioral Health Director
- Helps maintain logs and other data collection and audits
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidate must have 1-2 years experience working in a Behavioral Health setting. Must be flexible to adjust to the needs of a fast-paced environment, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and display excellent oral/written communication skills. High School degree is required and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare or similar field is strongly preferred.
