This position works under the general direction of the Community Development Director and in accordance with various town policies and state laws. The Planner provides administrative, technical, and professional advice to local regulatory entities in development review applications. The Planner reviews applications to assure completeness, design quality, and conformance with zoning and subdivision regulations. The Planner assists employees, officials, and the public with planning and development questions. The candidate must be able to communicate and write effectively, be a demonstrated team player, possess strong technology skills, and be able to execute programs in a professional, service-oriented manner.
In general, the regular work hours per week are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, hours may vary depending upon the needs of the department. Attendance at board meetings will be required as needed. There will be an opportunity for remote work throughout the week in accordance with the Town of Essex remote work policy and the needs of the Municipality.
This qualified candidate will have a B.A. or B.S. in planning, public administration, landscape architecture, civil engineering, natural resource management or related field; and two years relevant experience. Essex will consider any combination of education and experience that allows for successful performance in this role. The Town’s goals include hiring the candidate who is best able to meet the objectives of the position. We therefore encourage persons with non-traditional skill sets and experiences to apply, even if candidates believe they do not meet 100% of the qualification and hiring criteria described.
