The Toddler Community of The Montessori School of the Berkshires is made up of 15 children ages 12 months up to 2.5 to 3 years of age. The toddler guide works in a team of two other adults to support the children in developing independence in self-care including toileting, as well as developing social connection and awareness through consistent routines and activities.

The toddler guide is responsible for helping clean and maintain a beautiful classroom space that meets the needs of the children, collaborating with the other adults to uphold clear routines and expectations, and participating in all aspects of the toileting process (as children transition into underwear after they begin in the program). The assistant’s goal should be to help the children to help themselves, and as such must be able to observe to determine how to provide just the right amount of support to help the children achieve their own success.

ASSISTANT GUIDE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support children as they learn the skills of self-care, including dressing/undressing, toileting, preparing and serving food, etc.
  • Assist in the documentation of children’s activities, including posting information in the school’s record-keeping system.
  • Be responsible for the children's welfare, safety, and development.
  • Know the whereabouts of the students at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive environment including upkeep and creation of materials.
  • Support children in their management of themselves and the class environment.
  • Ensure a productive flow of activities and smooth transitions.
  • Participate in the annual professional development process.
  • Communicate quietly and respectfully with children.
  • Communicate clear, firm, kind, and appropriate expectations to children.
  • Model a respectful tone within the school community.
  • Maintain a quiet, collected, caring, demeanor and presence in the learning community.

GENERAL

  • Understand and promote the school’s mission and purposes, objectives, and policies in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Conduct oneself professionally by respecting student confidentiality, cooperating with staff members, working out differences in a mature and reasonable manner, and communicating unresolved concerns with the Head of School.
  • Attend appropriate faculty meetings and in-services.
  • Participate in the annual professional review process.
  • Read, work, and conduct oneself within the guidelines of the Staff Handbook and Crisis Manual.
  • Complete CPR and First Aid training.
  • Attend to any other duties assigned by the Head of School.
  • Contribute to the health and wellness of the MSB community with a strong sense of purpose, humor, grace, and courtesy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • On-time, regular, and onsite attendance.
  • Constantly position oneself to maintain eye-level communication with children and sit at tables or floor.
  • Be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Frequently communicate with children and adults.
  • Substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Work in inside and outside environmental conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

  • Experience with children: 1 year (Required)
  • Childcare: 1 year (Required)
  • Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
