JOB DESCRIPTION: FULLTIME INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT (2-Year) TN ALL Corp Grant-Funded

REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma

  • Certificated teacher with a current license, preferred.
  • Successful experience working with students, with successful experience in a school environment preferred.
  • Must be able to work under the direct supervision of a teacher.
  • Must also be able to substitute for a teacher that is utilizing sick or personal leave.
  • Meet the health and physical requirements and be fingerprinted.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The persons employed in these fulltime positions will have responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating and caring for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes;
  • Distributing and collecting workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction;
  • Assisting with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips;
  • Checking notebooks and supervising testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher;
  • Workings with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills;
  • Assumes responsibility for knowing and following the safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job;
  • Checking and recording attendance;
  • Providing or copying supplementary materials;
  • Assisting in supervising the children in lunchroom, playground, and bus loading;
  • Filling in for teachers as needed, utilizing plans created by the teacher.
  • Other duties assigned by the athletic director or school principal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This job requires lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the average weight of a child, if assigned to elementary grades, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. or more.
  • Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling; climbing; stooping, kneeling and/or crawling; reaching; talking; hearing; seeing.

VOCATIONAL PREPARATION:

  • The required vocational preparation may come from any of the following: vocational education; apprentice training; on-the-job training; or essential experience in other jobs.

  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
