Act as an ROP technician of the Packaging Department of Chicago Tribune’s

expectations and customer requirements, with responsibility for performing/ensuring all related machine set-up and operating functions on the Schur palletizer cell and auxiliary equipment. To ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and production of quality products running through the gripper, stacker, tyeline, palletizer and Schur operating system. Communicate with all levels of personnel and departments. Input the day’s runs into the reporting system and send essential emails. Assist with staffing, training new employees and direct employees in the absence of a direct supervisor.

Hours are 7pm to 4am, further details on the schedule will be provided during interview process. Hourly rate is $19 per hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• To ensure set-up of production/system’s equipment is accurate with the correct scheduled publication runs.
• Reading and understanding all related documentation for expectations of achieving shift/department goals.
• To inspect bundle integrity as it flows through the cell system.
• Steady monitoring of the production runs.
• To inform maintenance department of mechanical and electrical problems on equipment and to follow-up with leadership on the issues and repairs to minimize downtime.
• Work with department leadership and promote a safe and healthy work environment for the department. By ensuring you and the team adhere to the safety policy of wearing the proper hearing protection, steel toe shoes and housekeeping to reduce/eliminate accidents.
• Must be willing to help train/coach newer employees on the tyeline and palletizer expectations.
• To strive for a high degree of quality and quantity in all products produced to meet customer and department requirements.
• Ensure the department floor is clean and organized by end of shift
• To be familiar with and adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards of performance, attendance policy, substance abuse policy, housekeeping, safe working habits, standard operating procedures, etc.
• To maintain effective and open communication with Team Leads and co-workers on any matters that may impact the integrity of production and/or distribution of the product, and report to the Team Lead/Manager other matters that require his/her attention.
• To perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Typically requires one to two years of experience in a high volume production operation to meet standards in all aspects of the Technicians requirements.
• Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel and other departments.
• Must have the ability to operate equipment including, stackers, tyers, palletizer, etc.
• Requires bending, walking, standing and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Must have the ability to multitask, delegate to employees, work independently and work under production deadlines.
• Must have some computer skill as it relates to inputting data, sending emails, printing labels, uploading files, etc.
• Must be self-motivated and have the desire to work.
• Position requires working in production areas while forklifts, pallet jacks and related equipment is in use.
• Must adhere to company and department safety guidelines
• Must be flexible
• Training will be provided for all related duties

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
