Job Description: Job Summary
As a Tech Ops Technical Writer you will be responsible for managing, revising, and updating aircraft maintenance manuals and work instructions used for maintaining the SWA fleet; ensuring safe, consistent, standardized, clear, accurate and compliant work instructions.
Responsibilities
Creates, writes, revises, edits and publishes maintenance publications documents, and work instructions ensuring clear, accurate, consistent output in compliance with Federal Regulations, maintenance program requirements, Maintenance Procedures Manual, and standards guides
Processes Boeing and other OEM revisions to Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Fault Isolation manuals, Wiring Diagram manuals, and other publications and documents - reconciling the differences with SWA engineered changes and managing the approvals necessary for publication
Receives and/or submits, and processes SWA document change requests for Maintenance Publications, and Submits Boeing Publication Change Requests to correct Boeing errors
Assists with maintaining historical record of revisions, network library and published documents, and assists with required audits and computer-based data-entry as needed
Interfaces with various departments for continuous analysis and improvements of the maintenance program, publications, documents and processes including Production AMTs and Inspectors, Fleet Leads, Engineering, Planning, Regulatory, Quality, Central Publications, and any other department necessary
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expertly skilled in research, writing, and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Ability to read and understand aircraft maintenance manuals, work instructions, policy and regulatory publications
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and ability and understand and work with technology concepts
Advanced writing and editing skills using XML or SGML based authoring software
Advanced organizational and prioritization skills and ability to complete multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines
Advanced computer skills and ability to learn new programs quickly
Advanced research and troubleshooting skills
Working knowledge of ATA100/iSpec2200 and/or S1000D standards
Ability to lead others or Teams without direct positional authority
Working comprehension of CFR 121 Federal Regulations, and how they apply to maintenance technical data Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Engineering, and/or Airframe & Powerplant Certificate (A&P), and/or 5 years of Military/Commercial Maintenance experience
Experience
Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in
Maintenance Technical Writing at an airline
SGML/XML or HTML based authoring experience using programs such as FrameMaker, Arbortext, X-Metal, etc
Licensing/Certification
Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be able and willing to travel and interact with maintenance personnel for prototyping and revising work instructions
