Founded in 1999, Access Laser is a leader in designing and manufacturing high-end CO2 lasers. Our lasers are implemented in a wide range of applications from industrial, high-performance, to biomedical and scientific R&D, and our customers range from multinational companies to individual researchers.
We are currently seeking a full-time Technical Writer to help create and build a robust, high-quality documentation system for our fast-paced production team. Use technical and artistic skills to improve the clarity and ease-of-use of our internal technical documentation, such as work instructions, production documentation, and equipment maintenance instructions. The Technical Writer will own ensuring that production has the documentation they need to perform their jobs. This position is likely 40% in our South Everett/Paine Field building to work with production and the design teams and 60% remote for content creation.
On a daily basis you will:
- Create Work Instructions, Inspection Procedures, User Guides, Maintenance Manuals, Checklists, and other Production Documentation
- Lead creating designs and standards to develop and deliver documentation
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs) and continuous improvement engineers to optimize and maintain content for usability and accuracy
- Own migration and infrastructure building into a new content management system (CMS)
- Drive cross functional engagement with SMEs for review and approval of technical illustrations and content
Other job duties include:
- Working with the Development & Engineering team to understand products under development so that production documentation is available at the time of New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Spending time with the Production team to understand their workflow, to develop a deep understanding of Access Laser’s production processes and provide world class production documentation
- As time allows, supporting the creation of white papers and technical publications articles by proofreading and providing editorial input
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years in a writing or lead writing role
- Experience using and setting up content management systems
- Familiarity with the creating and editing procedural instruction documentation for use by production teams
- Knowledge of content management best practices
- Strong grasp of physics, mechanical, and/or electronics principles
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Excellent skills in grammar, technical writing, editing, and adhering to style standards
- High attention to detail
Other desired skills:
- BS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or other hard sciences
- Familiarity with CAD software applications (SolidWorks, CATIA/ENOVIA, etc.)
