Job summary
Join a team that has a personal and meaningful impact on the career trajectories of Amazonians worldwide. Amazon Technical Academy (ATA) is an end-to-end learning and placement program designed to empower those without a software engineering background to take on technical roles within the company.

Since launching in 2017, ATA has delivered this training through an internal program to transition Amazon employees into SDE I careers, which has proven to be a source for high performing, diverse SDE talent. As a result of our success, the program is poised for significant growth through internal expansion and through partnerships with external education institutions in order to train and hire a high volume of SDE I candidates from historically excluded populations.

To support this long-term vision, we seek a Technical Curriculum Developer responsible for the design and creation of the real-world, scenario-based labs at the heart of ATA’s curriculum. The ideal candidate combines practical computer science skills and engaging instructional design methods to deliver high-quality curriculum.

  • Work with learning experience designers, subject matter experts and key stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain effective lab and project experiences that align with expected learning and business outcomes.
  • Create lab experiences in Java that provide robust opportunities for participants to practice their growing Java development skills and assessments that allow us to measure their skill acquisition.
  • Apply adult learning principles and systematic instructional design to create learning experiences and content that best fit both the needs of the diverse learner and the delivery method, (e.g., virtual instructor-led training, and self-directed online learning).
  • Evaluate curriculum effectiveness and implement curriculum improvement plans.
  • Challenge the team to identify, experiment and implement new and innovative learning approaches, tools, and systems that help us scale.
  • Demonstrated experience creating computer science training programs and curriculum in Java for learners from historically excluded backgrounds.
  • Degree in education, instructional design, adult learning, learning technologies, computer science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing training materials for virtual instructor-led training, and self-directed online learning.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and learning materials.
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts, global stakeholders, and managers.
