New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 57 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with about 200 hospitals and serves 14 million people in our region, screening nearly 50,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $90M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 250 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England.

The Systems Administrator (SA), will manage specialized enterprise applications and locally deployed network infrastructure that can require direct engagement with 3rd party vendors and end-users. The SA will work with software and infrastructure vendors in collaboration with team members to design, modify, upgrade, and support network infrastructure, servers and, if needed, end-user computer systems.
The SA will oversee the daily performance and health of locally managed networks and specialized business systems. Tasks may include triage, repairs, installing, upgrading and monitoring software and hardware. They may also provide initial frontline support for server and endpoint operating systems, enterprise business applications, security tools, web servers, laptop, and desktop PCs and other input devices (printers, scanners, Bluetooth devices) where applicable.
Schedule
This is a full time Monday-Friday role, but will also require 2 weeks of overnight (4:30pm to 8:30am) support per month.
Responsibilities
- Work within the ticketing system to assist in the triage, investigation, and assignment of support issues.
- Build Windows-based VM’s as needed to support organizational needs using a defined secure baseline. Install additional software as needed to support the stated requirements.
- Maintain enterprise applications and associated servers operating systems though routine patching. Research patches/updates for potential issues and report any potential adverse impacts.
- Assist in the management of the Microsoft 365 tenant including Azure AD, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Teams.
- Manage, test and verify backups of critical servers. Work within the system to document regular testing of backups both onsite and remote.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or 5+ years related field
- Proficient with Microsoft end-user products (Windows 10/11, M365 apps, Teams, OneDrive)
- Experience with Microsoft Enterprise applications (SharePoint, Exchange Server, and Microsoft SQL) and Microsoft Online Services (SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, and Teams) is required.
- Knowledge of VMWare, iSCSI storage, and switching preferred
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills. Must be willing to learn and become proficient in additional technologies as needed
- Communicates clearly and concisely, both written and verbally, to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences
- Good understanding of the current technological information systems and standards and recommends appropriate technologies, tools, and techniques to be used
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to achieve cooperative working relationships with other departments
