We are looking to expand the services offered out of our newly established Mankato office to include surveys. We have immediate design surveys and construction staking work in southern Minnesota for this new crew. The crew will collaborate with and receive support from the Minneapolis office while growing the business. The vision is to provide complete surveys services to the public and private sectors including topographic, boundary, easement, and as-built surveys, construction staking, and preparing plats.
About the Role:
The Survey Crew Chief leads the Mankato Survey Crew while actively participating in field surveys activities. They plan, supervise, and conduct surveys activities. They grow the crew through positive leadership. They grow the business practice by delivering high quality results on time and within budget and by developing connections with clients.
Responsibilities:
- Plan work for the crew including daily tasks and longer-term staff planning
- Collaborate on survey assignments with the Minneapolis office
- Coordinate with design staff and clients to understand their surveys needs and explain the results
- Establish proper control and equipment calibration for field surveys
- Conduct topographic, boundary, easement, and other land surveys
- Stake construction projects
- Conduct as-built surveys
- Analyze and upload survey data and notes
- Process field survey data to create CAD files
- Perform boundary computations
- Supervise the survey crew including hiring, training, and managing performance
- Plan equipment and supply needs and coordinate purchases
- Maintain technical knowledge of surveying principals and technologies
- Research and pursue contract work opportunities
- Prepare estimates of work hours to complete tasks
Required Experience:
- Varied Survey Crew Chief experience including design, property, and construction surveys. Experience must include work on state highway projects.
- Education: High school diploma required. Secondary education from a two-year technical school in survey technology or equivalent field training and experience preferred.

This position primarily works in outdoor environment; however, some indoor work may be required. May work longer hours when season demands (summer, fall). May be exposed to all kinds of weather and engage in active, sometimes strenuous work including standing for long periods, pounding stakes, walking considerable distances and climbing hills with heavy instruments and other equipment.
- License/Certificate:
- NSPS – ACSM Certification as Level III, Construction Survey Party Chief, or
- Land Survey in Training (LSIT)
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable for insurability
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Microstation, Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center
