Job description
Description:
The Givi School of Music is a growing studio of roughly ten instructors with more than 100 students at present. We are currently searching for passionate applicants who love music and are looking for entry-level experience or long-term work as an instructor of all levels and ages.
As an instructor at the Givi School of Music, our strings applicant should expect to provide regular, weekly hours of instruction time spanning *roughly* four after-school hours (3pm - 9pm) on one (or maximum, two) days of the work week. Strings instructors would ideally have expertise in cello, violin, and/or viola, particularly. Initial negotiation of days/hours will be very flexible, but once agreed upon, regular attendance will be a necessity. Ages that the applicant instructs will cover the full range from young child to adult, but new hires will likely begin with younger students.
The number of students will begin low (one to two) and increase with demand for the instrument. Popular topics of instruction such as piano and voice usually onboard one to two new students each month, but a specific number of students is NOT guaranteed at the outset.
Please view job requirements for greater detail as to what musical skills our applicant should be prepared to perform and/or instruct on.
Requirements:
Applicants to become our new strings instructor must be able to:
- Explain and demonstrate a preferred warm-up routine that you would show to new students of different levels/ages. (It is highly encouraged that you include a form of stretching in this routine.)
- Play major scales and their relative natural/harmonic/melodic minors as sets with uniform technique.
- Explain basic pieces of notation with comfort as one would to a student
- Explain articulation techniques with comfort and fluency.
- Sight-read fluently, up to an early classical level.
- Pick and prepare a notated piece that you would be comfortable playing with a metronome during your interview. The metronome speed will not be assessed, only your accuracy.
Application Process:
IMPORTANT: All interested applicants, please reach out to the GSOM administrator F. Beckam at our business email address. Attach your cover letter, your resume, and SPECIFY your string instruments. Your information will be forwarded to our principal piano instructor for review, and you *will be informed* as to whether you have advanced.
If you advance, there will be two phases of selection: an interview with the owner of GSOM, and a panel interview with some of GSOM's other instructors.
