Summary
The Sr. Research Administrator will support the day-to-day aspects of pre and post award functions across the College of Health Professions. The College has a $5M+ sponsored research portfolio that includes external funding from federal, state and foundation sponsors. This is a senior level position within the CHP Finance Team and reports to the Executive Director of Finance & Research Administration. This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Summary
The Sr. Research Administrator will support the day-to-day aspects of pre and post award functions across the College of Health Professions. The College has a $5M+ sponsored research portfolio that includes external funding from federal, state and foundation sponsors. This is a senior level position within the CHP Finance Team and reports to the Executive Director of Finance & Research Administration. This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Typical Duties
Primary responsibilities for post-award (70%)
- Maintain an active and effective monitoring program in key compliance areas, such as award verification and set-up; sponsor financial reports; review/submission of various post award administrative tasks (No Cost Extensions, re-budgeting requests, prior approval requests) cost share; deficits; effort reporting; and timely and complete reconciliation practices, timely close-outs etc.)
- Serve as a post award management point of contact, expert, problem-solver and provide hands-on guidance to PIs in resolving complex post award questions or issues
Additional responsibilities for pre-award (30%)
- Budget development including internal and external subrecipients
- Utilizing RAMS-SPOT to key proposals and verify timelines
- Work directly with PIs to accurately interpret and apply both sponsor and university regulations and requirements in order to ensure compliance

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent training and experience
- 2+ years of experience in research administration
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff & student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
- Knowledge and experience in working with grant and contract procedures
- Ability to apply and interpret university and federal policies, procedures, laws, and regulations concerning sponsored projects
- Open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation
- Ability to work professionally within deadline constraints, exhibiting sound judgment without sacrificing accuracy or customer service
- Excellent computer skills in the use of MS Office, Google Suite, with a strong emphasis on Excel spreadsheets and MS Word processing
- Knowledge of various electronics sponsor portal systems (i.e. Grants.gov, WorkSpace, G5)
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze and evaluate all project related data regarding budgets and expenditures
- Meticulous attention to detail as demonstrated by regularly verifying all work thoroughly to ensure accuracy
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision and to make appropriate independent decisions
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance (2CFR200), and Cost Accounting principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of VCU Banner financial system, RAMS-SPOT, State and University policies and procedures for accounting and reporting
- Certifications such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA), or relevant certification in project management
