Job Summary

Our Fremont, CA location is adding a Process Engineer to lead the development of the electrode fabrication process, including mixing, coating, calendaring, and slitting process.

This position supports our Research and Engineering Team under the Direction of our CTO to manufacture cutting edge technology in EV batteries and energy storage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as go to person for the battery cell manufacturing front end process ( Mixing, coating, calendaring, slitting)
  • Leading the development of electrode fabrication process development, including mixing, coating, calendaring, and slitting process
  • Closely collaborate with external partners on process development or new material trial test
  • Develop process flow, PFMEA, control plan for the new process
  • Design tests to verify new processes
  • Own the innovation of the new manufacturing process
  • Working closely with equipment engineering teams or 3rd party partners to realize the new process
  • Create manufacturing introduction and deliver training to operations
  • Establish working instruction or procedure for the operations team
  • Lead problem solving and continuous improvement projects
  • Collect manufacturing data and analysis data to monitor processes
  • Support equipment buy off

Qualifications and/or Experience

  • BS or MS Chemical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Automation engineering, or equivalent with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • High understanding of the front-end process of lithium ion cell manufacturing
  • Experience working in cell manufacturing plant or lab
  • Knowledge of powder slurry mixing processes and equipment
  • Knowledge of slot die coating, electrode extrusion, gravure coating, transferring coating methods
  • Knowledge of measurement methodology
  • Experience with new process development and NPI procedure
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Aptitude to learn and incorporate new technologies
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing involving one or more of these areas is highly desired: mixing, coating, calendaring, slitting
