Job description
As a Yard Spotting Driver you will safely operate diesel powered tractor/trailer combinations at customer's facilities and off-site locations as directed. You must ensure adequate load securement is in place before moving equipment. You may assist the Tarp team as needed to expedite loading process. The Spotting Manager shall verify proper distribution of materials on trailers to meet DOT guidelines for gross vehicle and axle weight limits.
In this role you will communicate effectively with the loading services team, management and our fleet of Professional Drivers. You must demonstrate the willingness and ability to provide prompt and courteous service to our customer’s workers and redirect on-site issues to management for resolution.
- Essential Functions and Responsibilities for the role. May assign other duties to meet business needs.
- Conduct proper pre/post-trip inspections of equipment, freight and load securement in accordance with company safety guidelines as well as DOT/FMCSA regulations.
- Review and verify the accuracy of shipping documents (manifests, bills of lading, special instructions) to validate freight load composition, quality of materials, safe packaging and securement for transport.
- Properly affix securement devices and tarping of freight to prevent damage and/or loss of materials.
- Routinely inspect, handle, lift, push/pull, and tote tarps {approx. 70 lbs.} and accessorial equipment.
- While operating tractor-trailer equipment you will comply with federal, state and local government rules & regulations pertinent to CDL-A Drivers.
Additional Qualifications:
- Excellent communication & customer service skills (friendly, prompt and courteous)
- Good grammar, voice and diction with basic computer/keyboarding skills
- Works well hands-on with diverse groups of people and teams
- Previous supervisory experience in a production environment
Experience hauling loaded flatbed trailers is preferred; however we are willing to train an exceptional candidate. Ideal candidates will possess a valid Class-A CDL. All candidates will be eligible for our Safe Worker Drug Free Program, EOE.
