Summary

Specialty Needs Coordinator
Southington Community YMCA - Learning Center
Full time hourly position with benefits
Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, 9:00am -5:30pm with hour lunch break
Pay: $18.50 to $20.00/hr. based on experience

Duties

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Early Childhood Director, the Specialty Needs Coordinator will help manage and assist in the operations of the YMCA Childcare programs.
Attend all staff meetings
Provide leadership and support to staff and directors related to children's behavioral matters, special needs support, and education
Rotate on a daily basis to different classrooms throughout the day to evaluate and support staff and children as needed
Help staff identify triggers in children that results in behavioral challenges
Develop behavioral modification plans for children as needed
Follow up with parents, leadership staff, and staff on behavioral issues with individual children
Attend any meetings with parents & leadership staff as necessary
Coordinate the placement of support staff
Assist the Early Childhood Director to coordinate the referral of children to outside services and programs
Assist the Early Childhood Director with the evaluation of staff training needs and develop and implement a training plan
Help to supervise staff during the late afternoon hours
Act as a back up to the Assistant Early Childhood Director, closing the building as needed
Offer assistance in behavior management to other association childcare programs as requested

Requirements

Must be at least 21years old
Self-motivated
A proven "team" worker
Possess good organizational and clerical skills
Has a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Social Work or a related field
Has 3-5 years' experience working with children specifically those with special needs and/or behavioral challenges. Has the ability to communicate effectively with children, staff and parents
Has an understanding of the developmental characteristics of children
Must be certified in CPR and First Aid and Medication Administration
