JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the Architecture Archive is to record the School of Architecture’s pedagogical history by documenting student work, to provide students with resources that augment and enhance their architectural education, and to produce informative architecture and design exhibitions and publications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Special Projects Assistant is essential to producing the School of Architecture’s exhibitions, publications, and other special projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Accreditation — collecting, organizing, and supporting the presentation of student coursework and faculty course materials for National Architectural Accrediting Boardreviews;
  • Exhibitions — research, curatorial, design, and installation support for School of Architecture exhibitions in Houghton Gallery, 41 Cooper Gallery, the Third Floor Hallway Gallery, End of Year Shows, and other student exhibitions;
  • Graphic Design — organizational, editorial, and production support for exhibition catalogs and special projects publications;
  • Copywriting and Editing — writing descriptive texts for exhibitions, newsletters, and blogposts for the School of Architecture website; editing texts for exhibitions, publications ,and the website;
  • Website — collecting new content for the School of Architecture website and updating the site, including faculty and student work, on a regular basis;
  • Photography — photographing events, end-of-semester reviews, and documenting architectural drawings and models, scanning small drawings, and coordinating documentation with the Archive’s Collections Manager and Grants Liaison;
  • Other — supervising students working in the Archive on a daily basis, managing the Archive’s equipment available for student use, and processing publication sales.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates should be organized and have a high level of interpersonal skills and professionalism in dealing with faculty, students, staff, and the general public.
  • Applicants must be computer literate (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, SketchUp), and skilled in graphic design and multiple-format photography
  • Responsible, articulate, mature, and able to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related visual field is required. Curatorial, editorial, and archive experience are preferred. Familiarity with an academic environment is a plus

Rate: $25.00 per hour
