BAE Systems is looking for an experienced software leader who is passionate about the craft of software engineering, has a desire to mentor our engineers, and can partner with members of our engineering leadership team to attract and retain talented engineers.
In your role, you will manage a group of 15 to 20 software engineers, providing them with technical mentoring, career guidance and performance feedback. Additionally, we want to grow our team and you will be integral in interviewing and hiring new software team members. You will be an active member of the Software Engineering leadership team, shaping the software culture and process while ensuring the staffing and technical needs of the business are met. You will work with our programs using your technical skills and experience to ensure the design, implementation, and sustainment of our software solutions meet and exceed customer expectations. Technical roles include architecture and design reviews, strategic initiative implementation, bid and proposal development, next generation solution planning and other areas of engagement that align with your skills and career aspirations. This position will report to our Software Engineering leadership for the product areas in Wayne/Totowa, NJ as a strategic element of our organization.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience as a manager of people through: mentoring, hiring, performance reviews, and career guidance.
- Experience in providing technical direction to a team of engineers
- Hands-on experience in designing, developing, and deploying C++ based embedded software solutions
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Active Secret clearance
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience as a software project lead responsible for execution, cost, and schedule
- Experience leading a software team utilizing Agile methodologies
- Experience with DevSecOps utilizing Continuous Integration and Test techniques and tools
- Experience with Jira, Bitbucket, Git, Confluence, Collaborator, Coverity, Jenkins
- Experience working on embedded containerized software development projects
- Experience with software estimation
