Currently recruiting for a Police Department Sergeant to join the team of 38+ sworn officers.

Examples of Duties

• Pursue and effect the immediate apprehension and arrest of persons suspected of committing criminal violations directed to his attention by any means.
• Ensure that all officers in his/her command begin their tour of duty on time and remain on patrol until the end of the duty day, unless they are directed to do otherwise by a superior officer.
• Ensure that the officers perform their duties in a faithful and effective manner; continuously check the quantity and quality of service performed by the officers and to aid and assist the officers as needed.
• Respond to any emergency or occurrence of a serious or unusual nature that arises within the City. If his/her presence at the Wildwood Police Department would be of more value under the circumstances, he/she shall assign a competent officer to take command at the scene of the emergency.
• Whenever possible, respond to calls where members of his/her command are involved in controversy or serious accidents.
• Report immediately any emergency, serious crime or unusual occurrence to the Patrol Division Commander or Chief.
• Be responsible for the legality and justifiability of any action taken under his/her supervision.
• Be responsible for the enforcement of all laws and City ordinances within the jurisdiction

Typical Qualifications

Work five full years as a sworn officer with the Wildwood Police Department or equivalent with a major law enforcement agency. - OR - Work three full years as a sworn officer with the Wildwood Police Department or equivalent with a major law enforcement agency and has successfully completed an F.D.L.E. approved course in Middle Management or Line Supervision
Attain 45 college credits in any of the disciplines approved by the Florida Police Standards Council, other than the college credits attained by the successful completion of Basic Recruit School.
Successfully complete 400 hours of law enforcement related courses, other than Basic Recruit School and college subjects.
Successfully complete promotional process, which may include, but not limited to an interview and exam.
Maintain proper certification designated by the State of Florida CJSTC, and be a sworn officer.
Be recommended for promotion by immediate shift commander with favorable evaluations from all shift commanders, approved by the Patrol Division Commander and approved by the Chief.

Pay: $61,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
