Job Description:

The Technical Editor/Writer works as a member of a cross-functional team; responsible for the development of technical manuals and training content that provides end users the information needed to operate and maintain state-of- the- art ship and weapon systems. As a Technical Editor/Writer you will create content tailored for a specific audience that incorporates and clarifies engineering and logistics information. You will use XML authoring and database tools to produce IETMS as well as interactive training data. In this position, you will work under supervision in a team environment; directly coordinating with hardware and software engineering Subject Matter Experts, graphic artists and publications technology experts.

Work to be Performed: Will develop, write and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructions books, catalogs and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. Acts as supervisor to other Technical Writers. Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods. Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of work and revisions. Edits material prepared by other writers or plant personnel. Specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures. Writes and revises technical information about navy systems, such as operational, maintenance, or repair manuals. Duties include gathering and organizing technical information, preparing text and tools, and coordinating layout for print or electronic publication. Coordination with engineering personnel to understand engineering changes and communicate impact (to both engineering and logistics management staff) to developed or planned technical manuals (including briefs to the writing/editing/illustrating staff). Translating technical impact to technical manual development approaches. Will review of other writers' technical content (including participation in technical manual review events) to technical accuracy and adequacy in the final products.

Required Skills and Education: Knowledge of NAVSUP/NAVSEA TMMP, Instruction, and requirement. Authoring/Tagging in XML/SGML and/or S1000D data modules that adheres to TMMP standards, guidance/direction. High School/GED plus eleven years of relevant years of experience.


Security Clearance:

Applicants must have an active security clearance and/or the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance. Individuals will be subject to a background investigation to include but not be limited to, criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.
