POSTION SUMMARY: :EPS is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel – IP/Contracts: who will be responsible for overseeing EPS’s intellectual property portfolio and will assist with reviewing and managing the Company’s contracts. The Senior Corporate Counsel – IP/Contracts will play a critical role in securing EPS’s competitive advantage and minimizing risk to the Organization. :
WHAT YOU WILL DO: :
- Take responsibility for addressing and managing the IP needs of the Company, including drafting, negotiating, interpreting, and advising on IP-related agreements.
- Draft freedom-to-operate and/or invalidity opinions.
- Evaluate inventions to determine patentability. Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO and foreign counterparts. Draft, file, and prosecute trademark applications before the USPTO and foreign counterparts. Manage the Company’s patent portfolio.
- Advise Company stakeholders on various IP-related matters involving copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Manage outside counsel.
- Support the Company’s contract function by reviewing and advising on various types of contractual agreements.
- Review requests for proposals and other solicitation documents to provide feedback regarding the legal requirements therein and support the Company’s legal needs when responding to such solicitations.
- Review and draft Company policies and prepare company templates.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: :
- At least 7 years’ experience in contract and patent law, with functional experience filing patent and trademark applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- In-depth knowledge of intellectual property regulations and laws.
- Juris Doctorate Degree.
- Licensed, in good standing, to practice law in a US state and before the USPTO. May be required to become licensed in the State of Utah.
- Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
- Knowledgeable on technical, scientific, and legal aspects of intellectual property.
- Experience in reviewing contracts.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Thrives in a start-up environment, exemplifying a “find the solution” type attitude.
- Entrepreneurial mindset.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 9+ years' experience in patent law.
- Previous aerospace patent application experience.
- Previous battery patent application experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
- Travel 25%. Remote workers will be required to be on site for one (1) week per month.
