Middlesex Glass is a growing construction organization providing building façade solutions, with a focus on glass and glazing. We specialize in exterior work including curtain wall, storefront, metal panels, and more. Our work can be found around the Greater Boston Area in shops, schools, healthcare facilities, and more. We have grown quite a bit in the past year or so, and are looking to add an Estimator to our team, who will be responsible for managing growth and bring in additional business moving forward. This position will be based out of our Tewksbury, MA office (just North of Boston), and will work closely with our VP of Pre-Construction and Estimating!

Primary Objectives:

Our new Senior Estimator will be responsible for winning projects that can be successfully completed at the highest possible profit margins, and to initiate, develop, maintain, and improve our professional standing and relationships with general contractors, owners, architects, consultants, and subcontractors in order to secure future work and continue to grow.

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Estimator will be to interpret architectural drawings and specifications, determine project requirements, and estimate the cost of engineering, materials, and labor that will be require to profitably complete projects.

Knowledge of construction contracts, bidding processes, equipment requirements, labor sheets, proposal writing, estimate writing, change orders, and pricing are necessary.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop accurate take-offs and quantities of materials and prepare accurate estimates of all material, labor, and equipment costs, and factor the appropriate consideration needed to prepare a competitive bid.
  • Gather information to provide accurate unit pricing.
  • Thoroughly review all contract documents including specifications, drawings, and addenda to ensure a comprehensive takeoff.
  • Coordinate and review all drawings and details while identifying critical details and notes that may impact projects.
  • Reconcile drawing revisions back to previous set.
  • Review contract documents for bonds, insurance, job schedules, time frames, warrantees, bold requirements, bid forms, and request all paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Hold preconstruction strategy meetings with team members and arrange for site investigation visits.
  • Review documents to ensure there is a complete set and create a bid book.
  • Review contract documents for project requirements and ensure they fall within our standard coverage.
  • Determine equipment requirements and budgets.
  • Contact subcontractors to solicit bids, follow up and maintain contact through bidding processes.
  • Determine subcontractor base in project locations and develop bid letters & packages.
  • Research local vendors and pre-qualify vendors and subcontractors.
  • Set up estimates and develop accurate costs for proposed Scope of Work.
  • Propose areas of potential savings and develop milestones for project completion.
  • Prepare detailed RFI's, as required, and comprehensive bid evaluations.
  • Present pricing to owners/architects.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years in a Pre-Construction or Estimating role
  • Experience with aluminum/composite metal panels
  • Experience with glass/glazing

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
