Pacific Southwest Container is looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant who can take ownership of multiple areas related to general accounting, period end closing, and account reconciliation. This role will assist the Controller in all general accounting areas, help support the payroll function and help drive continuous improvements as PSC continues to rapidly grow and expand.

The ideal candidate is customer focused and has excellent attention to detail. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in meeting tight deadlines, completing period end close, driving audits to successful completion, an understanding of general accounting in a manufacturing environment and can assist payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed. Additionally, this candidate will need to drive the account reconciliation process and take ownership of all balance sheet accounts.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs general accounting functions to support accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Maintains financial reports and records to support general ledger accounts
  • Reconciles and Posts Daily Cash and Bank reports to ensure proper cash reporting
  • Reconciles General ledger to Bank Statements monthly
  • Prepares monthly close journal entries as assigned
  • Reconciles company PCard/Credit Card transactions and processes related journal entries
  • Completes Balance Sheet reconciliations and ensures proper documentation and support exists for all account balances
  • Analyzes account balances and provides explanations for account variations.
  • Processes monthly depreciation and fixed asset transactions
  • Works with external auditors as necessary to maintain proper fixed asset reporting
  • Provides ad hoc reporting as required
  • Assists Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Payroll as needed
  • Ensures the company meets GAAP compliance
  • Ensures period close deadlines are meet
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audits
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
  • Supports ASC 842 Lease Accounting requirements
  • Familiar with Quick Books and reconciliation of multiple entities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Proven success with analytical assignments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and diligence.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience with annual audits and preparation of audit documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding company information.
  • Perform accurate work to the highest standards of accountancy.
  • Able to complete work/meet deadlines with little direct supervision.
  • Driven, initiative-taking, and goal oriented.
  • Strong critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5-7 years of combined public & manufacturing accounting related experience.
