POSITION: Security Monitor
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The security monitor will serve as a security patrol, primarily when students are present.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
- Good mobility and physically capable of performing essential functions.
- Ability to work with adults and students.
- Must have a general knowledge of Ohio law, particularly as it relates to juveniles.
- History of good job attendance.
- Must pass criminal background checks, drug and alcohol test and submit a negative tuberculosis test.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Report to assigned areas and maintain an active patrol giving special attention to problem areas.
- Insure that the building and grounds are at all times secure and in good order, patrol the building and parking lot at least once each hour.
- Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the Board of Education.
- Shall assist with the control of all vehicle traffic and parking on school premises.
- Shall routinely check all vehicles in the parking lot and report any unusual or suspicious circumstances to the building principal or designee.
- Shall not permit students to remain in vehicles in the parking lot or permit them to congregate in numbers.
- Shall investigate all unfamiliar or unidentified vehicles and/or persons.
- Shall keep the school office informed of his/her patrol route and whereabouts at all times.
- Shall perform needed emergency custodial or maintenance duties as may be required for student health or safety.
- Shall cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
- Must adhere to all Board of Education policies, regulations and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, appropriate school law, the legal system including juvenile and municipal court protocols, requirements of the Ohio Department of Education, required local, state and federal reports, student discipline code, public relations, effective conferencing techniques, district and community resources.
- Ability to: Interpret policy, rules and regulations, compile and prepare required reports, communicate effectively orally and in writing, walk, stand for long periods of time. Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment
- Skilled in: Use of computer and office equipment.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Computer, copier and other customary office equipment as well as cellular telephone or two-way radio.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent: Both indoor and outdoor work required, potential interaction with unruly students and/or adults, must wear clothing and footwear commensurate with the duties of the position and which ensure personal safety.
Occasional: May have to work in inclement weather, working hours may have to be flexible, potential exposure to blood and other body fluids, may have to drive in inclement weather.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace through his/her employment in the district.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
STARTING DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY: Based upon the Governing Board Approved schedule
BENEFITS: Excellent benefits for all full time employees
WORK YEAR: Full time- 187 Days
