Title: Scrum Master

Location: Saint Louis, MO

Duration: 12 Months

Job Description:

  • The Scrum Master ensures the smooth operation of all Agile product team processes and activities, acting as the process delivery lead for a product or set of products. This includes organizing and running daily stand-ups, sprint planning and sizing sessions, backlog grooming sessions, and end-of-sprint ceremonies. S/He is a guardian of the team's mood. This role is responsible for tracking sprint progress and meaningful metrics by creating dashboards and reports as needed. The Scrum Master ensures that everyone has a holistic view and helps facilitate discussions across different team members.
  • This position is in the Hive which is a centralized, multidisciplinary team within the Client business that is responsible to lead the data and analytics transformation through strategy, literacy, use-case orchestration, products and services. Teams (swarms) within theHive are typically 5-8 people and this scrum master will be responsible for up to two teams. There will be 8-9 agile teams (swarms) within theHive overall. Agile certifications are strongly preferred for this position and experience building out an agile practice is highly desired.

Beyond the knowledge of Agile techniques, scrum masters must be:

  • Servant Leaders: Foster a healthy team environment. Garner respect from their team and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done.
  • Politically savvy: Work/collaborate/communicate effectively with upper management, stakeholders and other external dependencies.
  • Communicative and social: Communicate clearly with their team. Partner closely with Product Owners building a strong relationship that ensures the teams have everything they need to be successful.
  • Entrepreneurial: Comfortable experimenting, being wrong, accepting constructive feedback, adapting, and moving on. Drive themselves and their teams towards a continuous improvement culture. Have the ability to recognize when to deviate from traditional agile/SAFe approach and apply what adds better value based on an organization's specific business and products.
  • Facilitative: Lead and demonstrate value-add principles to their team. Assist teams with eliminating waste and encouraging the most innovative strategies possible while delivering quality code.
  • Empowered and Assertive: Lead and coach teams on Agile Principles, Values, and practices to ensure Agile/Scrum concepts are adhered to; Lead teams to self-organize.
  • Be a voice of reason and command authority to make tough calls.
  • Situationally aware: Able to identify differences of opinions and protect team from interruptions and remove blockers as they arise.
  • Enthusiastic: Transfer their high energy to their team via team building activities. Encourage creativity and continuous learning.
  • Continuously growing: Continually learning their craft, and discovering new tools and techniques to support themselves, each other, and their team.
  • Able to resolve conflicts: Facilitate discussion and alternatives or different approaches.
  • Transparent: Provide transparency to the business and leadership about product development, thereby growing business trust. Monitor sprint progress and provide "end of sprint" demos and reporting.

Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of working with development teams in an agile environment
  • Deep knowledge of agile practices and techniques is required
  • Previous Scrum Master experience required
  • Certifications a plus, for example SAFe, Certified Scrum Master etc.
  • Experience with effective communication at different levels in the organization and in English
  • Basic understanding of Data and Analytics or Business Intelligence operations and key deliverables is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft DevOps is strongly preferred
