Job description
The Orleans Southwest Union Elementary School District is seeking a School-Based Behavior Specialist for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. The expected placement for this position will be at Hardwick Elementary School. The behavioral specialist will be responsible for assessing students with behavior issues through direct observation, interviews with staff, as well as completing practical FBA. The behavior specialist will also collect data on the students, work with teachers, counselors, and parents to devise a behavior plan for students as needed, and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior plans.

The behavior specialist will also record and analyze student data and report findings to educational teams.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the OSUESD Behavioral Specialist Determine the behavior capabilities of students as they function at home and in schoolDesign behavioral interventions for studentsImplement behavior support plansMeasure goals and objectives of behavior support plans to ensure they are being metCoordinate between teachers and parents to implement behavioral interventionsCommunicate with parents and case managers in regard to students progressAssist students in identifying inappropriate behaviors and developing better behavior alternativesDesign classes, programs, and special curricula to meet the individual needs of studentsMaintains records of student behavioral dataRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have a strong foundation in applied behavior analysisMust have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with behavior disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and other behavior issuesMust have good communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with parents and education professionalsHave a basic understanding of instructional methods and curriculumMust have excellent interpersonal skillsMust be able to handle emotionally charged situationsHave the ability to train other people to apply behavior management techniques effectivelyHave knowledge of and know how to work with various support systems that are available in a communityMust know and understand state and federal laws and regulations associated with special educationEducation and Experience Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, or human services preferred, however, will train the right applicantExperience working with individuals with special needsSpecialty certificate in Applied Behavioral Analysis preferred
