Position Title: 2nd Shift Resident Support Assistant
Responsible To: Medication Services Manager
Position Status:Part-Time

Summary of Position: This position provides support to our residents during the evening hours, which primarily involves accurately administering medications, monitoring ongoing issues, responding to incidents, and documenting care.

Schedule: This position has the following part-time schedule of approximately 24 hours per week.
Weekdays: Monday – Thursday 3:30pm – 9:30pm with availability to stay until 11:00pm as needed.

Principal Duties:
1. Administer evening, bedtime, and PRN medications accurately and respectfully on a daily basis (training will be provided), and document accordingly. This position is expected to administer oral, topical, eye, and ear medications, as well as give insulin injections.

2. Properly receive, document, and store medications delivered from the pharmacy. When necessary, order medications and manage medication problems while on duty. Report any problems or errors promptly to the Shift Team Leader, and provide input to the Medication Manager on medication-related policies and procedures.

3. Maintain current Medication Administration, First Aid and CPR certification.

4. Develop rapport and communicate regularly—both formally and informally—with all residents in order to effectively assess needs, understand baseline functioning, and provide care.

5. Assist in monitoring residents’ physical, emotional, or mental health, checking vital signs as appropriate, communicating any resident health concerns to the shift team leader in a timely manner, and documenting follow-up in the shift log.

6. Provide crisis management and behavioral interventions as necessary, using a team approach to deal with difficult situations.

7. Provide care in a manner that respects residents’ dignity and uses mental health recovery principles to encourage residents to develop their strengths and talents and set personal goals.

8. Provide prompts, and if necessary, assist residents with basic tasks

9. Serve as shift team leader as assigned, coordinating resident care needs and following up on any unusual incidents. Communicate with healthcare professionals in a timely and professional manner as needed.

10. Assist with evening meal clean-up and other duties, as assigned.

11. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.

Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements:

1. Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 7 hours, lifting up to 10-40 lbs. frequently, assisting in lifting 50-150lbs as needed, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching

2. Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.

3. Emotional: Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential. He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.

4. Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Professional Requirements:

1. A degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field is preferred.

2. Prior training in medication administration is helpful, but not required, and will be provided upon hire

3. Comfortability with computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite. Additionally, familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR), is a plus.

4. Ability to pay attention to details while under pressure is essential.

5. This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.

6. Driving a vehicle for business purposes is necessary for this position. That requires that he/she have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR upon hire, and must at all times meet the guidelines in the Personnel Manual for an acceptable driving record.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 - $18.50 per hour
