JOB DESCRIPTION:

Applications are currently being invited for a Research Assistant position with the NKI-Rockland Sample Research Program (NKI-RS) at the Nathan S. Kline Institute (NKI). www.RocklandSample.org http://fcon_1000.projects.nitrc.org/indi/enhanced/

The NKI-RS is focused on understanding the impact of psychiatric illnesses on developmental and maturational processes utilizing innovative MRI- and EEG-based imaging approaches to characterize brain maturation across the lifespan in a community sample. Additionally, the NKI-RS is dedicated to the support of open data-sharing initiatives, such as the 1000 Functional Connectomes Project and the International Neuroimaging Data-sharing Initiative.

The NKI-RS fosters a collaborative environment where research assistants have the opportunity to gain excellent clinical and research experience. Salary is competitive, and benefits include health, vision, and dental. Responsibilities will include neuroimaging, behavioral, health, and neuropsychological assessment, data processing and database management. This is an excellent stepping stone position for highly motivated candidates who plan to pursue graduate programs in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or medical school.

Applicants should have a B.S. or B.A. in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, biology or related scientific fields. The ideal candidates will have prior human subject research experience, experience with computer systems and programming languages, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently. Specific technical skills are a plus, but not required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. or B.S. in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, biology, or other related scientific field
  • Preferred prior research experience
  • Five-day workweek includes Saturday and Sunday
  • Must have access to a vehicle
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Preferred experience with computer systems and languages
  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.
  • This position involves contact with children.

Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
