Mosaic Materials is an Alameda, CA based business developing a carbon capture technology to address global warming and climate change through direct air capture (DAC) of carbon dioxide. At the heart of Mosaic’s technology are metal-organic framework (MOF) solid sorbents that increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of carbon capture by ~50% relative to competing technologies. Role Description

Mosaic Materials is looking for a creative and self-directed Research Engineer to accelerate development of our unique sorbent technology. This person will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to characterizing and testing Mosaic’s DAC technology with current and future test stands and prototypes. The candidate will work closely with the hardware engineering team to collect essential material and system performance data to aid the process and engineering teams with analysis, design and scaling of Mosaic’s carbon capture systems.

Key Functions

  • Support Materials & Process Teams to characterize sorbent performance
  • Execute testing programs to screen sorbent performance across critical process variable ranges
  • Collect, analyze and report test results from bench-scale testing systems to identify performance trends
  • Provides feedback on and contributes to development of new protocols, processes, and experiments
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to identify and realize improvements in sorbent testing and analysis

Preferred Background and Experience
*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field 5 years of relevant industrial research and development experience
  • Strong understanding of engineering concepts including mass transfer, heat transfer, thermodynamics and kinetics
  • Prior experience with sorption, gas separations or battery technologies
  • Willing and fast learner who can train on new equipment and processes
  • Familiarity with characterization techniques like TGA, gas sorption and FTIR
  • Ability to work independently upon several high priority workflows with efficient communication of progress and results
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and GSuite.

Bonus Skills

  • Knowledge of MOFs, zeolites and or other related porous materials
  • Prior experience using solid sorbents for TSA, PSA or TVSA processes
  • High degree of mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity handling and analyzing datasets

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Position may be subject to US export control under ITAR or EAR.
