The Role
Reporting to the Team Lead, Plant Transformation, the Research Associate, Plant Transformation plays an important role in Elo’s product development pipeline by contributing to plant tissue culture, propagation, transformation and regeneration.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a depth of experience that includes the following competencies and skills.

Key Competencies:

  • Extensive experience in plant tissue culture, ideally with diverse crop species
  • Significant hands-on experience with multiple plant transformation technologies, e.g. Agrobacterium-mediated transformation
  • Hands-on experience with recalcitrant crop transformation is preferred
  • Experience with microscopic imaging is preferred
  • Experience with basic techniques of molecular biology (e.g. DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis) is highly appreciated
  • Knowledge and experience with embryogenic cell suspension and cryopreservation of plant materials is appreciated
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, flawless aseptic technique and a collaborative attitude
  • Demonstrates accountability, responsibility, and integrity in every aspect of professional life at Elo and upholds Company values in all they do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform end-to-end plant tissue culture and transformation tasks including explant preparation, transformation, selection, sub-culturing and acclimatization across diverse plant species,
  • Assist support tasks such as preparation of plant growth media, stocks and sterile supplies
  • Sample and process plant materials at various stages for detection and analysis
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in plant biology, horticulture or related field
  • Two or more years of plant tissue culture-related experience
  • Collaborative attitude with a desire to learn while delivering high quality results
  • Able to work in a sterile tissue culture hood for extended periods of time every day
