Job description
News reporter (2)
Sauk and Columbia counties
Juneau County

Madison Media Partners is looking for two curious, driven
self-starters with good people skills, a positive attitude and great work ethic
to keep readers informed about what's going on in their communities in Sauk,
Columbia and Juneau counties, Wisconsin.

The region is in the heart of Wisconsin's driftless area, an
ancient landscape untouched by glaciers that offers unlimited outdoor pursuits.
It's also home to Wisconsin's top tourist destination as well as a lively arts
and music scene.

For a storyteller, the region is a gold mine. Politically
purple, its diverse population ranges from conservationists to clowns (Baraboo
is home to the world-famous Circus World Museum). Members of the Ho-Chunk
Nation have always called the area home, and immigrant families and student
workers regularly travel from South America and Eastern Europe to spend their
summers working in the Wisconsin Dells.

The successful candidates will write news and feature
stories, shoot photos and videos for wiscnews.com, serving south-central
Wisconsin, and its related print products: The Baraboo News Republic, the
Portage Daily Register, the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen, the Wisconsin Dells
Events and the Juneau County Star-Times. Stories may also appear in the
Wisconsin State Journal in Madison.

Both of these positions are, at heart, general assignment
reporting positions, requiring a lot of flexibility, an ability to develop
sources and work independently to decide what is newsworthy or makes a good
story. In addition, the person selected to cover Sauk and Columbia County will
cover Baraboo schools and regional attractions. The Juneau County reporter will
be responsible for covering everything from local government, schools,
businesses, events and public safety.

One to two years' experience in journalism, either in
school, internships or on the job, is preferred. Reporters must live in or near
their coverage area to respond to breaking news.

To be considered for the position, apply online at www.madison.com/workhere. (Select
Location: Baraboo) As part of your online application, please attach a cover
letter and five samples of your work or links to five recent stories. If you've
done video work, please also include links to three recent videos.

The deadline to apply is June 13th.

Capital Newspapers is an Affirmative Action and Equal
Employment Opportunity employer. We are committed to maintaining a workforce
that accurately reflects our audience and expands our voice. Women, minorities,
and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Pre-employment background and drug screenings apply.
