Job description

Receptionist needed by busy plastic surgery practice in Waycross. Position includes answering phones, welcoming patients/visitors, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance and collecting patient payments. Medical/dental office experience preferred. Responsibilities:


Responsible for creating a welcoming and professional first impression of the practice. Ensures that patients receive exceptional customer service when they call or come to our office. Ensures that patients have access to our services by maintaining a dynamic appointment schedule. Obtains accurate demographic and insurance information. Responds promptly to referring physicians requests.


Essential Position Functions:


  • Answers telephone in a personably and professional manner and directs calls appropriately
  • Schedules and confirms patient appointments
  • Performs check-in and check-out
  • Scans documents as appropriate
  • Collects and processes patient payments
  • Enters patient demographics and insurance information into computer system
  • Balances end of day billing report with receipts
  • Monitors reception lobby to ensure that it is clean and professional in appearance and that patients are comfortable
  • Handles patient complaints as well as disruptive patients/vendors appropriately
  • Performs other tasks as needed

Job Requirements:


  • Previous medical office receptionist experience preferred.
  • Must have computer experience and be comfortable learning new software
  • Possess the tact to deal effectively with patients, physicians and other employees of the practice
  • Possess attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Possess the ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Possess the initiative and drive to take a project from its inception to a successful conclusion
  • High school education or G.E.D. equivalent
  • This position will be bonded

Working Environment:


  • Physical Demands:

Lifting Requirements: 20-40 lbs.

Frequency of Lifting: 0-10% of the time


Average percent of time during regular shift devoted to:


Standing, Walking, Bending, Reaching: 15%

Additional considerations of the physical demands are:


  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach for (above shoulder height).
  • Ability to speak on the telephone and write simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate multi-line telephone system; computer keyboard; ten-key adding machine.

Vision: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as read computer terminal and reports.


Hearing: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as answering the telephone.


Speaking: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as communicating via telephone and in person for the purposes of appointment scheduling and providing patient information.


Dexterity: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as sorting papers; stapling; operating office equipment.


Mental Demands: Adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as calculating co-payments and deductibles and properly crediting patient accounts. Position may periodically encounter unfriendly or hostile individuals regarding payment situations and the status of outstanding insurance claims.
