JFoster & Associates, LLC (JFA) is seeking qualified candidates for Radiological Control Technician for client support in the vicinity of Monticello and Moab, Utah. The project duration is expected to last from July 2023 through November 2023; however, the timeline is tentative and may start in August 2023 and possibly be of longer duration. The project entails drilling 16 boreholes through two existing uranium mill tailings storage facilities and into the underlying bedrock. An exclusion zone will be established around the drill rig and monitored by radiation control technicians.
RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL TECHNICIAN (RCT)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The RadCon Technician (RCT) shall perform a wide variety of complex contamination and radiological control assignments to minimize personnel exposures to radiological hazards and ensure compliance with established regulations and procedures. Duties may include working on-site with routine and/or special detection equipment and may require use of respiratory protection.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Special studies in the evaluation of radiological protection for personnel, environmental, or project site areas.
- Participate in area-specific radiation worker qualification and requalification programs.
- Prepare and maintain records and documentation as appropriate.
- Aid in the preparation of radiation control documents such as Radiation Work Permits (RWP), survey sheets, procedural documentation, etc.
- Attend critiques and In-Progress as low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Review’s (IPAR) at Rad Manager Direction as a work assignment.
- 12-hour work days including travel to and from job-site.
QUALIFICATIONS
- An associate degree or vocational training in radiation control.
- Prior experience working in radiation control preferred
- Fundamentals of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and science.
- Systems and fundamentals of process, operations, and maintenance.
- Reading and comprehension level sufficient to follow procedures, write permits, prepare survey maps, write reports, and prepare shipping and transfer permits.
- Ability to work in the support role including communicating verbal instructions to others.
- Physical requirements: Must be medically qualified, or be capable of qualifying, to wear approved respiratory protective equipment (air purifying respirator, airline respirator, etc.).
- Must be able to bend, kneel, and climb a ladder.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with standard office suite and radiation protection-related software applications
- Candidates should be in good physical condition and capable of working in hot desert environments and maneuver/work on uneven or rocky terrain.
LOCATION
This position in located in the vicinity of Monticello and Moab, Utah and is eligible for travel, per diem and a 14-day on, 7-day off work rotation. Housing per diem is also provided.
The area offers world-class outdoor activities and is within short driving distances of Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks.
