Job description
Develops, delivers, and evaluates an educational coding and computer programming program offered by the Education Department. Develops and presents an education program that provides education to all on coding and computer programming.
- Develop and present drop-in Open House hours to teach coding and computer programming for students and their families ranging in age from 6 thru 14.
- Develop and execute innovation programming for students ranging in age from 6 to 14.
- Attend career day events (both expos and presentation style) to inspire students to seek careers in technology.
- Develop and present coding workshops for teachers which leads participants through step by step hands-on introduction to using popular software and hardware available to teach coding, teaches computer programming concepts and principles, and offers a hands-on to these workshops.
- Develops and executes a 6 week summer camp program both onsite and live remotely teaching programs such as designing and programming video games, building and programming circuits, designing website, etc.
- Develops and executes an after school program for students ages 6 thru 14 which can be taught at the school or remotely online to a live class.
- Develop and present additional coding and programming classes both onsite and live remotely with multi-level progressive curriculum.
- Continually develop programming to bring great coding programs to as many children as possible, both in the region and remotely.
- Maintain equipment and software in PNC Innovation Zone.
- Create unique programs in which child will be introduced to programming, game development, website creation, electronics, and more.
- Build favorite games into part of the curriculum; provide a place where gaming is celebrated as kids gain confidence in coding, math, logic, and problem solving.
- Assist preschool educators in implementing the foundations of coding into the Pre-K curriculum.
- Assist children to learn in social settings with like-minded peers.
- Implement and maintain software and hardware needed for programs developed.
- Develop and execute a programming that utilizes the digital cinema screen for projects created by students.
- Explore partnerships with after school programs, school districts, libraries, and community centers to grow coding programming in the region.
- Assist in grant writing for funding of new programs, hardware, and software directly related to this position.
- Attend departmental and all-staff meetings, keeping informed of on-going changes in development and programs.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge of program-related concepts by participating in training opportunities and independent study.
- Collaborate with the VP of Science Center and Education cross departmentally to get programs on sale and marketed properly.
- Maintains familiarity with emergency procedures and assists in implementing them when necessary.
- Participate in team activities to continuously improve the quality of our guests’ experience.
- Works with minimal supervision, assesses situations and makes necessary decisions on the job in order to maintain and improve the quality of this program.
- Works a flexible schedule as assigned, including weekends, evenings, holidays and special events.
- Bachelor’s degree in elementary or computer science education preferred. Coursework in computer science is strongly recommended.
- Teaching Certification and working knowledge of PA Academic Standards preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and guest service skills are required. Must enjoy working with families and groups of children.
- Must be poised, self-motivated and a positive influence on team dynamics. Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly is essential.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events.
- Must be able to work independently to a high standard of reliability and quality.
- Must be able to be a positive, professional representative of Whitaker Center to the community.
- Must have good oral and communications skills, including the ability to speak clearly and project your voice on a daily basis.
- Must be able to teach a variety of age groups with enthusiasm, energy, and much creativity.
- Must communicate professionally with educators and positively with children.
- Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs frequently and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Bilingual candidate preferred.
- Must be able to understand and obey safety rules and regulations related to equipment and chemicals.
